Caswell Beach Has More Sea Turtle Hatchlings!

As Caswell Beach Sea Turtle season moves later into the fall, our Turtle Watch teams sit by patiently as we monitor our remaining nests that now take longer to hatch, in accordance with the necessary NCWRC sea turtle regulations.

Last night, CBTW excavated Nest #58 last night, which required we sit to the 75th day of incubation. We were grateful to find 90 hatched shells. Five were unhatched and we had one live hatchling.  This hatchling was found to be very weak, dark in color and somewhat malformed but made it to the ocean.

Nest #62 hatched Monday evening around 7:00 pm.  It was the 64th day and our team was never so glad to see baby sea turtles. We counted 56 hatchlings that went straight to the water. The nest team later completed the Inventory which resulted in 62 hatched shells, 35 unhatched, 3 pipped and 4 live hatchlings.
