While Caswell Beach had very little damage last weekend, our beautiful state has had unimaginable and catastrophic damage from Hurricane Helene. We are hurting for our friends, loved ones and NC neighbors who are suffering! We hope Western NC can feel our thoughts, prayers and support from afar.
Nest #61 hatched the evening before Hurricane Helene with many observers while it was still light out! What a blessing that those babies made it out before the storm! 71 hatchlings made it to the water! There were only 77 eggs in the nest. That’s great results for a late season nest that has been through 3 storms! Fortunately, this nest was never overwashed. Full results from all inventories can be seen here.
Our season is continuing into October as we still have 4 nests on our beach. We are hoping for more hatchlings soon!
