This Sea Turtle Mama is Lucky #7

Caswell Beach Turtle Watch has had a busy couple of days with Nests #5, #6 & #7!

Nest #5 was relocated to a higher location away from the tideline.

Morning Patrol hit the Jackpot and came across Nest #6 Mama still laying her eggs high in a dune this morning! Beach walkers told us she came out of the water at 5:20 am.  We arrived at 6:15 and she didn’t head back to the water until 7:05.  That’s 1 hour and 45 minutes, BLESS HER!  Per our NC Sea Turtle Project protocols, we were able to take measurements and scan her for tags for the Seaturtle.org database. Several beach walkers were able to observe Mama from a respectful distance. What a treat!

Nest #7 was on a low sloping dune beyond the last high tideline and did not need relocating.
