Slow But Steady for Caswell Beach Sea Turtles

On Monday the Caswell Beach Turtle Watch Morning Patrol found that Nest #11 had hatched big overnight with lots of hatchling tracks in the runway. Nest #60 was laid in the high tide line and 110 eggs were relocated to higher ground.

We represented the area sea turtle programs at Monday’s Oak Island Farmers and Artisans’ Market providing Sea Turtle Education to the public.  It was very busy with lots of interested visitors!  We love answering questions and showing off our sea turtle displays! Our displays include a simulated sea turtle nest and several real sea turtle shells that help us explain the different sea turtle species and their amazing size. Mark your calendars for August 19 to come see us next time at the Farmer’s Market. We have our next children’s education event at Oak Island’s Education Center on August 6 from 10:30-11:30!

This morning we found that Nest #15 had hatchlings emerge overnight at Day 52!  We also welcomed Nest #61 to the beach!  It was a small nest with 77 eggs relocated from the high tide line to the dune line.

These are the busy days with nests hatching while mamas are still laying!
