Caswell Beach Turtle Watch had a quiet few days, but we are happy to have 3 more nests this morning!
We greeted many beach walkers that were out early and who were able to observe our nest finding process!
Nests #20 and #21 were laid in safe locations. We are grateful our sea turtle mamas are getting to the dunes.
Nest #22 was laid at the high tide line in a low area known to flood so we had to relocate 105 eggs to higher ground.
The sea turtles nest egg chambers were very well-camouflaged. They took awhile to locate as they were not where we anticipated they would be given our past experience.
Unfortunately, we had several dog prints over the nests that were clearly marked off. We are hoping as beachgoers become more aware of the sea turtle nest activity, they will restrain their dogs to keep them from disturbing the nests. Please help us by informing new visitors!
